Empowering Love Stories

How We Can Help

We provide individual and relationship counselling from therapists who identify as queer and can relate to the unique experiences and challenges faced by LGBTQ individuals and couples. In short, we get it! That’s why we have created a safe and affirming space where you can feel understood, validated, and supported on your journey towards repair and deeper connection. We are here to support you regardless of your relationship structure: monogamous, polyamorous, or non-traditional relationship. All are welcome here.

Various modalities inform our work with 2SLGBTQIA+ couples including:
Through guided discussions and exercises, couples can express thoughts and feelings and address issues or concerns such as trust, intimacy, conflict resolution, and long-term goals, ultimately strengthening their bond, and deepening their connection.
This approach aims to help couples create secure emotional bonds and overcome relational distress. Explore your attachment patterns, emotional needs, and relationship dynamics, leading to greater understanding and empathy. EFT interventions focus on reshaping negative interaction patterns, fostering emotional responsiveness, and promoting intimacy and connection. By addressing underlying emotions and attachment needs, partners can create a deeper sense of closeness and security in their relationship.
IFIO interventions focus on cultivating intimacy and connection within relationships by exploring internal experiences and emotional vulnerabilities. In therapy, partners learn to communicate openly and authentically, deepening their understanding of each other’s needs and desires. IFIO interventions prioritize self-awareness, emotional expression, and vulnerability, empowering couples to build a strong foundation of trust and intimacy. By fostering a deeper connection with oneself and one’s partner, couples can experience greater satisfaction and fulfillment in their relationship.
Intimacy therapy focuses on enhancing emotional, physical, and sexual intimacy. Through supportive and nonjudgmental therapy sessions, partners can explore intimacy-related concerns, such as communication barriers, past traumas, or sexual difficulties. Intimacy therapy provides a safe space for couples to address sensitive topics, express their desires and boundaries, and work collaboratively to strengthen their connection.
We provide a supportive and structured environment to address relational challenges. Whether couples are facing specific issues or seeking to strengthen their relationship, marriage and couples counselling provides valuable insights, tools, and support to help partners thrive together.
Premarital counselling offers couples an opportunity to prepare for marriage by exploring their expectations, values, and goals as a couple. Therapists guide partners through discussions on topics such as communication, conflict resolution, finances, and family dynamics, helping them build a strong foundation for their future together.
Gottman Couples Therapy is a research-based approach that helps 2SLGBTQIA+ partners strengthen their relationships by fostering trust, intimacy, and effective communication. Therapists use Gottman’s proven interventions and assessments to identify areas of strength and growth within the relationship, helping couples navigate conflicts and deepen their connection.
Attachment therapy focuses on understanding and addressing attachment patterns within relationships to promote security and connection. Therapists help partners explore their attachment styles, emotional needs, and relational dynamics, identifying areas for growth and healing. Attachment-based interventions aim to reshape negative interaction patterns, foster emotional attunement, and cultivate a sense of safety and trust within the relationship. We also address individual attachment wounds and help you heal and create healthier more secure bonds.

Why Work With Kaleidoscope Counselling Collective

Kristie Brassard

Founder & Clinical Director

Our psychotherapy and counselling practice was built on the philosophy that we’re all imperfect humans with our own strengths and struggles – there are no bad parts of us, only steps to take in our personal journey to living authentically.

When you’re struggling with your emotions, feeling disconnected, or craving more meaning in your life, it can be hard to know what you need to start feeling better.

There are so many competing priorities that you feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or stuck existing in a space that isn’t giving you enough joy, peace, or purpose. We want to help tap into the inner strength that allows you to uncover the passion, confidence, and courage you have for living wholly as you.

Our clinicians have extensive lived experience and professional expertise. We use a client-centered, eclectic, and holistic approach to help you get the results you need.

Let us help you embrace your authenticity boldly & proudly by supporting your goals, identity, and life aspirations!

Kaleidoscope Counselling Collective is a queer-affirming, ally friendly, virtual therapy practice that is:

Members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community often feel like outsiders who are being ridiculed, rejected, abandoned, or “othered”. Our practice aims to create a sense of belonging and representation for all clients.

We model our beliefs in a way that develops a deeper connection with our clients. By creating a safe space for expression and vulnerability, we help you find your true voice and purpose that you want to carry into your own life.

Our therapists embrace a client-centered, eclectic approach, meeting clients where they are. We trust in their inherent wisdom & offer support, encouragement, and interventions to help tap into their inner resources.

How Our Couples Counselling Works

Choosing the right therapist for couples therapy is crucial for creating a safe and effective environment for both partners to explore their relationship dynamics. You can book a free 15-minute consultation to see if the fit feels right for both partners and the clinician of your choice, or book an initial session right away!

We spend time getting to know what you're struggling with now, what past challenges may be influencing your current distress, and how you both want your life to be different. We want to hear your story, at a pace that feels comfortable for both of you. Our aim is to create a space where you feel understood and respected, allowing you to open up and explore your thoughts and feelings freely.

We work with you and your partner to understand your goals and dreams, as well as the individual and collective barriers you face. Together, we develop a flexible plan specific to your needs, wants, and priorities as individuals and as a couple. By collaborating closely with you both, we ensure that the therapy process is tailored to your unique circumstances and aspirations.

Each of our sessions is a stepping stone to understanding, repairing, and moving forward as a team. We adjust the plan based on what both you and your partner bring to each session, and what you need to feel good today and about your future together. Our goal is to empower you both to overcome challenges, strengthen your connection, and build a fulfilling relationship that aligns with your shared vision for the future.

Questions About Therapy

Frequently Asked Questions About Couples Counselling

Couples and relationship counselling involves working with a trained therapist to address issues within a romantic relationship, improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen the connection.
Couples may consider relationship counselling when they are facing challenges such as communication problems, trust issues, conflicts, intimacy issues, or considering separation or divorce. Couples may also choose to attend couples therapy pre-emptively, to learn skills and have conversations that enhance their relationship.
During counselling sessions, couples can expect to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences within the relationship, learn effective communication and problem-solving skills, and receive guidance from the therapist. Your therapist will want to see both members of the couple together and/or individually at times. This can support the therapeutic process, and can be negotiated between the therapist and the couple.
If one partner is hesitant to attend counselling, it’s essential to have an open and honest conversation about the benefits of therapy and how it can help improve the relationship. Encouraging them to attend an initial session to see how it feels may also be helpful.
In counselling, couples can explore their individual goals and desires for the relationship in a safe and supportive environment. A therapist can help facilitate communication and negotiation to find common ground and create shared goals.
The duration of couples counselling varies depending on the complexity of the issues and the progress made by the couple. Some couples may see improvements in a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy.
